First-hand information for everyone
CodeSpecWeave is a new framework that lets researchers create coding tasks with many linked specifications. Instead of simple checklists, the tasks demand joint reasoning across constraints.
The system uses a synthesis agent that, starting from real developer seeds, builds requirements and runs them as tests in an iterative loop. A separate review agent then checks the solutions produced by multiple AI models, filtering out tests that are too weak or that miss valid code.
Using CodeSpecWeave, the authors generated 4,670 training tasks from 2,865 software repositories. After training AI models with reinforcement learning on these tasks, performance on the DeepSWE‑v1.1 benchmark improved markedly compared with the base model.
The researchers also curated a benchmark set – CodeSpecWeave‑Bench – of 100 tasks with 1,044 specifications. Benchmarking top models on this set highlights shared failure modes and shows substantial room for growth.
However, the approach has practical limits. It needs heavy compute; each synthesized task runs in its own container inside a Kubernetes pod. Training on all tasks requires infrastructures that can handle many containers in parallel.
